Microsoft buys Anti Virus Company

Plans to start selling AV software to enterprise immediately.

SEATTLE — Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday that it plans to acquire Sybari Software Inc., which makes programs designed to protect business computer networks from viruses, worms and other threats.

Sybari has a [sarcasm]whoping 10,000 customers[/sarcasm].

Is it just me, or is M$ going out of their way to buy up small, almost unheard of companies in it's bid to enter into the anti-spyware and anti-virus market?

I wonder if AV protection will be included in SP3 for WIN XP (maybe not) or in WinFS in its first Service Pack (maybe).

XP should come with some sort of protection. It makes no sense to scan for spyware, when it could have been blocked from being downloaded in the first place. M$ needs to wisen-up!
