Not sure if this is the right forum, so please bare with me. Anyway, since Friday, my comuter some times just Freezes up, and I do not know why. I have not installed any major software. I am running Windows XP Pro with NTFS file format. Any suggestions on how to solve this w/o wiping the drive clean?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like Blaster worm - quick search here will throw up lots of results; scan and removal tools at cai.com, amongst others.

if it's not a blaster, it could be because you might not have enough RAM.

Nope, its none of those issues. In the event viewer, I got the following warning:

The driver disabled the write cache on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

What does that mean? This happened at the same time the computer froze.

Thanks,

Take a look at:

experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20629873.html

Could be the controller on that drive.

I even tried another drive, so I do not think that it is the hard drive controller. The even log gives me these errors:

Under system:

The driver disabled the write cache on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

Under Applications:

TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\USER-HB5L0Z9ZUL.ldb" was corrupt and has been copied to "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\xDB6.tmp". File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\USER-HB5L0Z9ZUL.ldb" was corrupt and has been deleted.

TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt, restoring from backup "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\BACKUP.RDB".

TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt and has been copied to "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\xDB1.tmp". File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt and has been deleted.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Google results seem to indicate that error can be caused by ZoneAlarm - do you have it installed? It's junk - get rid of it and install Keiro Personal Firewall (free!)

Yea, I thought that it was Zone Alarm. I had e-mailed them, and I am still awaiting a response. I had used them for several years w/o a problem. very strange. I guess I will have to uninstall and switch to another service. I will try Keiro Personal Firewall, thanks for the help!
