for all the people that use .NET technology, what has been your method to learn it most effectively? i am definitely (as i would guess, most of you are as well) a hands-on learner. are there any above-average books/websites that you have used to accelerate your learning process?

i have been using VB.NET and ASP.NET for about 2 months now, and learning to realize it's the best thing since Philadelphia cream cheese. i am a long time user of classic ASP, so it's been a smooth learning curve.

i am just curious if any of you have any tips/tricks/cautions/best practices you have come across in your travels. thanks for your input.

Hi mattglet,

I have a self full of .Net books at home. They explain the theory and show you in examples how it works. They get you to code with the book. I have found it a quick, comprehensive and fun way of learning. If I remember when I get home, I'll try to post some titles for you. Can you please sticky me a reminder to do this.

By all means learn .NET hands on, great way to do it. Also if you get stuck keep in mind that .NET can do almost everything and then some. I use Sams Teach yourself ASP.NET in 21 Days. It goes over ADO.NET and ASP.NET and some web stuff in general. It's a really great book and has excellerated my learning alot. I hope that this helps.

I did the reading and it was good for the basic stuff. Doing projects is how I really got good with ASP.NET

Read the forums at www.asp.net .. its great for asking questions and reading other peoples questions/answers. I am a regular poster there and its a fantastic resource.

Another great site for learning is www.learnvisualstudio.net .. the guy who runs it creates daily videos on tips for .NET and has member videos which are more indepth.

I consider myself an advanced user, and still get some great tips from both those sites.
