IIS Causes Problems

I installed IIS on my computer. All of a sudden, something strange: after about 5 minutes, I cannot access any webpage on the Internet nor can I access my emails.

If I re-start the computer, Internet and email access work fine, but then after 5 minutes, same problem.

I uninstalled IIS and the problem vanished, so it would appear that the problem is related to IIS.

Any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi. I can't quite understand the type of problems you are having, since I have been running IIS for several years now without a problem.

If you are behind a firewall you might need to adjust your hosts file.

Also, if you don't have a firewall, you probably got hit with a code red or nimda virus as soon as you opened your webserver to the net. Run a virus scan and take a check.

Be sure you're not using XP - Home Edition. I don't think IIS runs on that OS. Just an FYI.

I've also heard of Service Providers, particularly high-speed, disallow IIS to be running on it's client's computers.

Go into IIS Manager and right click on Main site, then Properties. You will see an IPAddress box that probably say's "All Unassigned". You will need to prevent IIS from talking on the IPAddress you have going to the Internet. I've never tried but you might be able to add 127.0.0.1 which is localhost.

It is a IIS crash caused by Nimda virus infected machines on the Internet that is hitting your box.

My experience is that it only occurs on NT4 machines running IIS 4.

Solution:

Just locate idq.dll on your system and eithier delete it or rename it and you will be OK.

you running zone alarm? Its done it to me to..

Try stopping the service then restarting it, AFTER your computer has booted.
