Sorry if I am in the wrong forum...

I signed up with anew Host, tranferred my files, and now want to make absolutely sure that they work there before I say good.bye to the present Host. The instructions I got from the new Host don't work but I saw this article

[mediacollege.com...] (although I have Windows7)
but cannot understand half of it (why do I need to contact my ISP if the article tells me what to enter in the boxes) an how that allows me to go through all my webpages locally.

Any help much appreciated.

those are instructions to configure the DNS server used to resolve web requests made by your PC.

what you need is to modify the DNS configuration for your website.

if you do a 'whois example.com' using your domain you will see where your DNS server is located.
how you update that configuration depends on the DNS service you are using.

thanks phranque

I'll look at that, but meanwhile I've gone half-way with the hosts file. Problem now is that it is only good for html files and not for php. But, I'll find a way rouns that.

Thanks again

using the hosts file can make it functional for your machine and that is ok for testing but it won't work for anyone else trying to access the site.

Hi phranque

That's exctly what I want to do, to make sure all's well in the new server before visitors arrive. And I found a way round the php: I just renamed the files temporarily...

Many thanks
