I want to learn .NET and ASP. Can anyone recommend a good starter book? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

But if you're new to this, I'd scrap .NET and go to PHP. I am forced to use .net for work, but I don't think it will be around in 5 years... Just look at the amount of posts in the PHP forum compared to here. It's a ghost town here. From what I can see you're going to get a lot of white haired execs pushing .net, while the youth is all PHP.

Here in Portland all the jobs are in .Net, so I have the same basic question. Also, I would like some advice on finding a hosting plan.
As for the ghost town remark, I can see how it is justified. Posts from November are still on the front page!
But book and hosting advice would still be appreciated
