My server logs show some hits by agents using "NT 5.2" in the UA string. NT 5.1 means Win XP, so I was wondering what 5.2 stands for.
I searched the web and found quite a number of other logs containing such a string, and one page claiming it might be the OS indicator for Windows .NET Server 2003. Can someone confirm this?

That's as reasonable guess as any, especially as they are supposed to be sending out versions of the 2003 server pretty soon (they think ".net" in their product names scares people so they dropped it on future products, including the OSs)...

Equally it might just be someone with a filtering proxy and a sense of humour who's out to drive people like us absolutely crazy by creating a fake entry for a version of windows which doesnt exist yet.

That does make the most sense.

Another thought is that MSFT usually has some type of beta OS out there, many of which don't make it to production. Remember Chicago.

What does XP Tablet PC Edition report? 5.1?
