Problem opening PDF from hyperlink in IE8

I've got a page coded in .net with a link for users to open a PDF in their browser. For some weird reason IE8 won't spawn Acrobat when I click on the link...it won't do anything actually.

Tried it in Firefox with no problems.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks.

Glad you got it working, but that wasn't it. You CAN hyperlink to a pdf from a table all day long.

Added so that someone coming to this thread later is not confused.

Yeah sounds weird. Maybe you had the wrong link or were linking to the page itself, hence nothing happened.

I guess since it worked in Firefox but not IE meant that it should have worked period. Easier sometimes to change rather than troubleshoot.

Some browsers are enabled so that they load PDFs into the browser window (ie the reader is integrated with the browser). Others open PDFs in an external PDF reader such as Foxit or Acrobat. It's down to the person viewing the web page as to how the browser is set up.

A reason for not automatically opening PDFs in a browser (especially IE) or even prohibiting it being opened in an external reader is that PDFs can contain viruses. Some browsers may be set up to not download them for this reason.
