Can anyone offer any advice? My website is hosted on a Microsoft-IIS/6.0 and the hosting company also offer cloud vps... (I can't say that I am knowledgeable of the technical side) and it maybe that the cloud is also on Microsoft - II/6.0.

I am wanting to try to make sure that I have as fast as possible server within the costs etc.. What do I look for in terms of hosting server speed.. and what benefit of 'cloud hosting'? (they do say 100% uptime - so I guess that is a big bonus!)

Thanks for any advice...

I have a few questions which may help us here at WebmasterWorld use give you advice.

(1) Is your website experencing growing pains were it needs upgraded hardware to meet the demands?
(2) Or is it that the vps is that much cheaper then your current hosting costs?

Other thigs you might want to look out for is they may bill differently for vps vs standard hosting.

FYI:
VPS = Virtual Private Servers.

Ignore the term cloud. Its an overly abused marketing speak, currently in vogue. Which can be simply defined it an application/service that is hosted in a datacenter someplace.

Thanks Ocean 10000

My current website works fine, although I believe it to be on the slow side in loading compared to other sites in the same market place. Obviously the page content etc has a huge impact on this - but I am wondering IF the hosting server also plays a part? I have a 100+ page website. How do I determine whether the server is 'fast' or whether it could be improved on?

Does the Microsoft - II/6.0. explain what the server is or is that just the operating system?

Are your pages static or dynamically generated?

If its static, the amount of images, javascript might effect it, but no server upgrade will fix that problem.

If its dynamic, meaning its coded with some sort of server side scripting language, server upgrades might be able to speed it up.

As for Microsoft IIS/6.0 yes it means it is Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Internet Information Server installed. We can assume since you are hosting its a server os, and not windows xp.
