VSS treating js files as binary files

Hi, I wasn't sure where to ask this question as it's not strictly a webmaster question but hopefully the mods won't mind - I've tried MS forums.

I'm having problems with javascript files in my Visual Studio/Visual SourceSafe environment. When I try to compare a local copy with the VSS version by right-clicking on the file in Solution Explorer in VS and selecting 'Compare ...' all I am told is that the binary files differ. I would expect to see a dialog box entitled 'Difference Options' allowing to compare a different VSS version of the file or different local versions.

I'm pretty certain it's just a setting somewhere but I just can't seem to find it. So I was hoping some of the MS developers/webmasters here may be able to help me out?

Cheers John

Not sure which version you're using. But with version 6.0 it looks like the following may let you change settings:
Go to Tools, Options, then scroll way to the right to the "File types" tab.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I've tried that already. My binary files setting is

*.doc;*.dll;*.exe;*.ocx

I've tried adding *.js to the files types and groups below the Binary Files to no avail.

I'm using version 6.0d of VSS.
