I have been on the server I am on now for 3 years and am now being updated with a new server.

I need suggestions on how to do the IIS settings with all the changes I have done over the last couple years.

1000 or more 301's from site changes and multiple other sites I have either 301'd to another site.

I will have 30 or more days to do all the data uploading etc and IIS changes but feel there may be an easier way to import all the IIS to the new server from the old server. This is my first moving servers so any help would be appreciated and needed.

The changes in IIS were manual as the sites are all htm static pages.

What version of IIS are you moving from and too?

IIS version that ships with Windows 2003, has a file export option that will allow you to save all those type of settings to a file, which you can import to a new server running Windows 2003 or newer. This assumes you have access to IIS Manager to do this.

Ocean10000 I figured if anyone knew you would. I am on a 2003 windows server and will be moved to a 2003 windows server both are IIS 6. I have access to the server remote and access to all fuctions on the server.

I will have to research what you said about the file import.

Thanks Ocean10000 if ya have anymore info please let me know.

Simple instructions.
OLD SERVER
  1. Open up "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager"
  2. Select the IIS instance you wish to manage (I am going to assume the local one).
  3. Expand the "web sites" folder.
  4. Select the website in question.
  5. Right Click to bring up the context menu, and select "All Tasks"
  6. From "All Tasks" select "Save Configuration to a file".

NEW SERVER

  1. Copy this Configuration file to the new server.
  2. on the new server open up "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager"
  3. right click on the "web sites" folder.
  4. select "New" - "Web site (from file).." and use the file you saved previously.

Your done.
