Querying and then writing XML

Hi,

I've never worked with ASP before so please excuse me. I'm trying to connect to a database, execute a query, and then write this query as XML so that I can then use it. Can someone please point me in the right direction? It doesn't need to be ASP.NET. Ps, I'm on a mac so I can't install visual web developer.
