401.3 - Unauthorized:

We set up a site for a new client on our server like we set up all our sites, but when we try to access this site through a browser we receive the following error: 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.

Has anyone heard of this? I've done a little digging and found that this is caused by using "sub-authorization." However, sub-authorization is not enabled in IIS 6 by default, which is fine. We don't want to use it. Is there a way to turn it off for the new site we set up? Is this something within a file in the site?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in advanced.

It sounds like there is some kind of incorrect permission setting on the folders containing the website. Do you have access to the IIS control panel for the site?

It's a strange error, in that it means the particular user or group you are using to access the site is denied, as opposed to everyone being denied access.

Certainly, file and folder permissions is likely where you need to start your investigations.
