i am on shared platform and i have noticed recently that the server is having many server timeouts which is affecting my site, i need to find out how many and how often so i can find a culprit, my host will not give any details, is there a script i can use for this? the error collection doesnt not a timeout aa an error.

I would recommend these use of a third party uptime monitoring service. There are plenty of free and low cost options out there. To gauge the severity of the problem accurately (and give you some decent ammo for the hosting company!), I would go for a free trial with one of the reputable paid providers.

You can't find out if another site on the same shared server is causing your hosting problems - only the host can do that. I would suggest that if you feel that they are not addressing your concerns about uptime, use a different host.

Does your host allow you to put up a custom 500 error page? If so, you can just create a custom page to log the error/email you/log to a db...
