installed IIS, getting 401.1 page

Install IIS server 401.1 not authorized

I just installed Internet Information Server on Win XP and when I access the local host I get the 401.1 ‘You are not authorized to view this page’.

I also have Apache on this machine but I turned it off.

Is there a security setting I need too fool with? Or do I need to change the ports even though Apache is off, if I do does anyone know how to do this?

I have tried finding this stuff in the ‘help’ documents but their no help.

turn on "allow anonymous access" and turn off "basic authentication" and "windows authentication"

THis is how I have it currently,

Anonymous access is checked and has a user name and pass word.

Basic and windows athentication neither are checked.

have you set permissions correctly to your home directory?

You need the IIS guest account, IIS launch process account, ASP.Net account and the IIS worgroup account all to have read permissions to the direcory.

Where do you access these settings?

I have been searching around and can't find them.

I think on XP you need to turn off simple file sharing to get the folder security permissions.

What is simple file sharing?

stupid question: do you have an index.html or index.htm or some other document name that is listed in your default document list in the IIS web site properties? I've seen this happen when it can't find any of the possible default pages.
