I have Windows 2000 installed on my system and have iis installed too. When i am trying to open [localhost...] its throwing error as the page cannot be displayed. I dont know why has it happened.

Would it be possible for anyone to help me over this?

Also when i try opening the IIS and try to start the service it says "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

Need your help guys.

Thanks.

Try turning off your friendly errors in explorer. Wait, since the iis is not even running that won't do much good. Check your error log for more error explanations.

Sounds like it could be aa permissions issue with the IIS services. Or IIS may need to be reinstalled. Did you try rebooting (it's amazing how many times that fixes problems!). Oh, and what version of Win2000 are you running?

I have the windows 2000 professional installed on my computer. IIS was working pretty fine but it stopped working when i reinstalled it after formatting the system. I did reinstalled it again but there were few errors. any one of you have any idea about it?

The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated with the following error:
The authentication service is unknown.

The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service terminated with the following error:
The authentication service is unknown.

The FTP Publishing Service service terminated with the following error:
The authentication service is unknown.

Any idea on how can i get rid of this problem?

Thanks

I know this may sound strange, but make sure that you've got the Client For Microsoft Networks installed in the properties of your network connection.

mike_01 - the errors you showed are not within iis errors, smtp, fpt and web publishing are separate and I don't think have anything to do with each other.
