After the last "Update Tuesday" we updated and patched all our Windows 2003 servers and everything was ok for a few days. Then all heck broke loose and we started having sites crash randomly, on different servers.

I would say it's a programming issue if it was only one site, but it's been 4 different sites, on 2 different servers. Recycling the app pool for the crashed site takes care of the problem, but only until it happens again. These are not customer site, these are our own sites and we're very familiar with them, and there have been no major changes on them in the past few months.

Some times when a site crashes, when we try to view the web site you get a "web site too busy" error. There is nothing unusual in the event logs, only an item that says the app pool was recycled.

We've had to start using a monitoring service just to keep an eye on our sites.

I don't know that it has anything to do with the previous update, but it's the only thing we've been able to come up with.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Can anyone offer some insight?

Thanks...

I hope you have a firewall... take a look at that. I know SP1 gave me horrendous issues with my Tiny Personal Firewall. I cannot even use it anymore.

Another thing you might wanna do is get a traffic monitor or TCP analyzer to see exactly what is happening.... of course there's always a chance of being an actual attack...

The netword is behind a substantial hardware firewall, and it doesn't appear to be a problem that the above kb article addresses. The servers just don't scale like they used to. For example the MSN bot has been running wild the last few days, and some of the web sites have crashed due to that. And this has never happened before.

Thanks for your help.
