I was trying to do some more testing on your message board but I ran into a problem. I learned that SunOne ASP and mySQL have issues with inserting a large amount of data into the db. So I entered a sort of longish message and saved it. The server threw an HTTP 507 error at me and since then your site seems to be offline. When I click my bookmark for the site it keeps loading and loading without ever timing-out. Let me know when you're back online please. :)

EDIT: It finally timed-out after five minutes and threw another HTTP 507 at me.

After a little more testing it seems that somewhere between 1100 and 1200 characters in the message will cause your server to throw an HTTP 507 error when I click the Post Reply button.

Enough testing for now. Your site is crashing on me again with that same old "lost connection to database" error that I thought your ISP told you was fixed. ;)

I noticed this morning that you strip all the line feeds from my message.

As a result I can't create a message with more than one paragraph in it.

When I entered:

Line 1
Line 2
Line 3

It was displayed as:

Line 1 Line 2 Line 3

:)

Yeah, im fiddling with a new refined way to test a string for content. Hopefully when im done, any string which does not contain at least one alphanumeric character or symbol will be rejected. I will also fix that html special characters loop hole and limit message size to 1000 character spaces or break up large messages.

The site will time out with a lost connection if its processing a large enough queery which is understandable but otherwise should still work well enough whilst I make these changes for you to do some other trouble shooting in other area's. I have not been able to get around to securing the anon user name field as much but rather am concentrating on the message body for the moment.

Im starting to enjoy this as much as you now I think. Happy hunting and im off to bed for now. See you on the other side.;)

Got the script up but there is a problem with the encoding. I used Server.HTMLEncode but its not working for some reason, will have to wait till tomorrow to have another look at it.

I'm not sure if your new script was in place yesterday but I was able to post a message with a blank name and a blank message. Are you trimming leading and trailing blank spaces and other non-printing characters? If not I'd suggest you need to do that. In particular I like to trim leading and trailing blank spaces and new lines.

Should be fixed now. Also im going to delete all the message history to clean it up a little so we can see what is going on a little better.
