Can I create a local backup of a MS SQL 2000 database?

Just took the big jump from MS Access...

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only thing that I miss horribly is how I used to be able to download and backup my MS Access DBs.

Is there any way to do this with MS SQL 2000? I'm using the Enterprise Manager, but all I'm finding are tutorials on migrating to another SQL server. :(

I sure hope I can backup my own database. It would seem a bit ridiculous not to be able to take that liberty.

Probably better/easier ways, but I create a local SQL server and export the data from the remote to local.

Take a look in BOL. Search on Backup in the Index Search.

Right click the db name in enterprise manager, then select all tasks --> backup database. You can then create a local backup of the database where-ever you like.

You just need to backup the data(.mdf) and transaction log (.ldf) files each day.

If you right click on the db and select properties, you can find the locations of these files.

You can write a batch file that shuts down SQL, copies out the mdf and ldf files and restarts SQL - 2 minutes of downtime. Not terrible if you run it as a scheduled task at 3am...
