I found some comments on this software but theya are of the 2002. Someone can give me more recent comments on this software.

Regards.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. Anyone using this? How does it handle your code?

I don't have any direct experience with it, but I've assumed it would be of limited use because most commercial ASP software probably uses other IIS resources for mail, etc. It would seem that just about any application would require some rewriting. And if you were developing from scratch for Linux, you'd probably use something ubiquitous like PHP.

Maybe someone will chime in with better data, but I've operated on the assumption that it would be used if an ASP app HAD to be migrated to Linux and a partial rewrite would be easier/cheaper than developing from scratch in PHP.

That's why I'm asking. My sites have all been down for the past 6 hours, and all I can find out is that a router went bad. Now they won't even answer the phones.

So I'm looking at new hosting solutions. One of my options is to migrate to PHP, but in the mean time I need support for ASP. (I may also stick with the Windows server but it's a reliability thing)

I'm pretty sure ChilliSoft lacks support for COM. What implications that would have for ADO, etc, I'm not sure.

Admittedly, Windows servers are not known for reliability, but if there's a bad router and the host is being unresponsive, why not find a better Windows hosting service?

I'm looking into that as well. But I feel that PHP has a little more power than classic ASP and having the option to switch would be a nice bonus.

I have actually found a few servers that have .NET support at no extra charge which would make my life easier.

But it's all about keeping your options open.

http*://www.lunarpages.com/faq.htm#015 has a good table explaining the differences between Chillisoft and ASP

I spread some ASP websites out over different ISP's from my main webserver. Even using windows boxes I had to make changes for every one of them. Everybody has different set ups. Getting Forms to work is the worst problem. I had one guy that said he can only give me log files that are one month long. I have to download that thing everyday to see my stats. It's huge.

We have developed two small sites and put them on a box with Linux and Chilisoft and the script compiles nicely, however, we can't connect to an Access database, have to use mysql and our email scripts tank.

I think the problem is you have an unreliable host - you need a host that does Windows well and has the features you want. There's nothing inherent in Windows hosting that screws up forms or limits your logging ability.

I've had few problems in moving between Windows hosts - sometimes forms change because of mail differences, but usually it's because the original designer did something non-standard. I don't use FrontPage or FP extensions, but any site designed that way should be perfectly portable.

Given the circumstances, I'd guess you'd invest far less time in moving to a decent host than trying to make your ASP software work in a Linux environment.
