Sorry if this is not the right board but I was struggling to find one. Mine is Microsoft Windows XP related but not NET or ASP related.

I have a technical problem on my system. I have a corrupt Prefetch file and was wondering if it is safe to delete these types of file? It is not causing much harm but I'm getting a warning every minute which is quite annoying.

All I know is that these file types store data to allow applications to start up faster onn my PC. Does this work in the same way as cookies and the temp folder does for the Web to make a site load quicker? When an application is started will another of these files be automatically created?

I don't want to delete it if it is going to permenantly slow down all of my systems applications.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
