IIS problem after applying Windows Update !

I have recently updated a Windows 2000 Server with all security patches from Microsoft Update. This was made because Norton Antivirus detected W32.Mimail.A@mm and W32.Swen.A@mm viruses on several emails of my clients. None of the above viruses did manage to pass to the system according to Norton Antivirus but were located to the outbox directory of my mail server.

Until now I had the following installed on this server:
IIS 5.0
MDAC 2.6
Microsoft .NET 1.1
JMail 4.0 Free

After the Windows Update all plain ASP web sites crashed without any indication or warning. All ASP.NET applications still work perfectly because there code is included in a separate .dll.

Does anyone know what is going on with IIS? What if I update MDAC to version 2.8?

It wouldn't hurt to upgrade to the newset MDAC, and a reboot or two after the installs wouldn't hurt either.

With windows, the best debugging tool I've found is the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys to reboot.

Generic Technical Support for all Microsoft Windows problems:

Step 1: Reboot the machine.

Step 2: If that didn't fix the problem, reinstall Windows.

Well, updating to MDAC 2.8 didn’t work! I have tried to re-install Microsoft .NET 1.1
but the problem remains.

If you want clean updates, remember that you have to install patches or upgrades with everything turned off. IIS Admin Service Off. System Tray items off. And end those tasks that you can that have higher PIDs. This gives you a better chance the files you need updated are actually updated. If your MDAC installation is corrupted or unsuccessful, do what XOC says. You really don't have a lot of options outside of rebuilding the system since MDAC is so closely tied to the system.
