"Universal" location encoding mechanism

Just stumbled across the following:
[travelgis.com...]
[nacgeo.com...]
[searchenginewatch.com...]
Are meta tags coming back into vogue? I'm having trouble believing it :).

Anyone know if any of the engines are looking at NAC tags?

I can only find *36* sites using NAC tags so I think it's still a long way from becoming a meaningful standard.

What are you geocoding? Business location? Physical address where the website is hosted?

If the former, the engines can solve the problem already (whether or not they are applying the solution is a different story).

If the latter, you can get close enough via the Maxmind IP stuff... and I don't see a good use for the application other than to sort into country indexes on a global scale.
