Canadians.
Of all the pages I have for UK & Ireland, America, Australia & Canada, it is the Canadian page which draws the most search queries for specific geographic locations.
Why is this? Are Canadians more precise/specific than anyone else in their search engine habits? Is there any kind of research into how the people's of different nations use search engines? Do North Americans have different search engine patterns than Europeans when it comes to looking for something in a specific place?
It really does surprise - the Canuks are WAY ahead in my stats for searching for local geographic Canadian places.
I am a transplant from the states up here, so compared to the US, the search results here are TERRIBLE!

- it gives a huge amount of local search returns - much better than using the same search term in Google.

I agree that for Canada and other larger nations (geography wise) other then the US you have to be area specific or get lost in irrelevant results like in my early experiences with Ontario Canada (population 12,449,502) vs. Ontario California (population 160,000).
1. Basically, Canadians, (like Australians, and perhaps other nations I've yet to research myself), tend to search in larger search engines using "keyword+town+state".
2. There is very little competition from ".ca" or ".au" websites for a website containing the "keyword+town+state" whether it hosted in Ca or Au, (or in my case - UK).
3. It makes no difference whether webpage URLs are added to Google, (using the "ADD URL" function), or added to Google.ca, or Google.au - as to whether or not they are found by search terms in either Google, Google.ca, Google.au etc.
4. However, the same search term in the trial GOOGLE BETA LOCAL SEARCH ENGINE - produces BETTER local results for the same term than if it was used in the main Google, (or Google.ca, or Google.au), search engines.

Perhaps more Canadians require laser eye surgery due to more cases of snow blindness than other countries! :) (Just kidding)

Further research clarifies that the point that Canadians tend to search a lot more by using "keyword(s)+ location" much more specifically in an attempt to get more local websites as opposed to any from their southern neighbours in the USA.
