How can I get inbound links?

Nobody wants to link to my PR1 page

I'm trying to optimize a page with PR 1. I've sent many requests for link exchanges. The outbound link is placed in my page even before I send the request, but none of them has linked back.
I supose that a site with PR 1 is not very attractive to exchange links, but I need exchange links to improve the PR.
Is there a solution? Can a small site become bigger? Or I'll be condemned to PR 1 forever?

Is there any way to improve PageRank when nobody wants to exchange a link?

Page rank is vastly overrated. If you have a quality site, people will link to you without being asked, regardless of your PR.

I managed to get people to link to my site before it was even listed in Google. Anyone concerned only with PR is sadly shortsighted.

Do a search in G for sites that are similar to yours as far as pr goes. When you find some with lower pr send them an email and pitch it to them as a mutual benifit for both of your sites to get better pr. Do that with four or five low pr quality sites, but you have to know some sites with low pr rank very well even over higher pr sites. If your listings and traffic from G are good let it be, if its not then wrangle up some links.

Search directories related with your industry, they often link to you, even without a link back.

Build some interesting content, submit it to all the freebie places....wait a little.

Then go and ask lots of people to reciprocate......many willl give you free inbounds if your site is good.

We have created numerous sites using this method and no joking we have had lots and lots of PR3/4/5's link because our content is good and we ask nicely. We have PR6's and our biggest hit was a front page link on one of the major sports events in the world.....we even offered to pay and they refused. All because the content was good and we had lots of it. Plus we asked nicely and we always try to help anyone who helps us.

Get away from looking where you think everyone else looks for links and you will find people and sites who have no idea what link swaps are for......ie hotels site for the USA...contact local golf courses. It is a service that they want to offer golfing clients.

That is all we do, admittedly on huge scale.

Shurlee, I'd guess that 90% of the sites on the web never requested a link, but many have thousands of links. How? Typically, they offer information that people find useful and think their visitors will find useful.

I'd agree that organic link growth is a lot slower than a highly organized campaign, but if your site has lots of great content, or even better, great tools or downloads, you'll steadily accumulate links from all kinds of sites.

Now if you have a 5 page affiliate site with no content or some regurgitated pages, you probably won't get many links by just being out there.

I think the important time to seek out links is when a site is launched. Some good early links can jumpstart traffic, and as the site gets more visitors it will start to collect links on its own.

Rogerd hit it on the head: People just aren't voluntarily going to link to a banner-covered affiliate site for phenteramine. It's just not going to happen. Sites that are nothing more than storefronts will have the same problem.

Roughly one-third of the links to my largest site are "organic"; that is, I didn't submit or request a link. They presumably found me via SERPS, liked what they saw, and linked. The remainder are mostly directories, either DMOZ and it's many clones, or various niche / not-so-niche ones.

I've only ever requested one link from a site, and the webmaster apparently liked what he saw enough to give me three SE-indexable links, all on PR5 pages, even though my site shows a PR0 in the Google Toolbar.

It happens, all sarcasm aside. You just have to be realistic with regards to the quality and nature of your site.

You have to be patient and some of the sites found this way will definitely link back if they like your content. Just remember that there are many engines and by using permutations and combinations you can find many link partners.

I would have followed your counsel if I could, but there is a problem. I think that there is a very BIG PROBLEM.
The page that I'm trying to optimize is not mine. The owner contracted me to optimize it but he's always impossing his rules. For example, he said that I shouldn't exchange links with sites that have PR less than 4... in their links page!
Even I've got a PR6 link! (A link from a site with PR& in the links page, of course!) My boss has become happier with this, even I've told him that that link is a waste: there are hundreds or even a thousand links before ours. Of course I would prefer to exchange links with other PR1 sites, but I don't decide this!
So, I'm hand-tied and I need to get high PR links to make my boss happy, keep the job and ensure that I can pay the University where I'll study next year.
Somebody can help me?
I've been thinking about link farms, but I let it as the last hope! I will risk the site to get punnished before risking me to loss my studies. I'm desperate :(

Hi! It's me again!
I forgot to tell something: I don't decide the content of the site. I must shut up everytime I see that abomin... that site! I can only manage the links page or do minor changes. It was a miracle that they let me add NOSCRIPT and NOFRAMES tags! This is hell! :( :( :(

mil2k: Thanks for your post! It gives me some hope :). I will get links that maybe are unindexed, but from high PR sites. As s said in one of my favourite books:

Ditch the client. Or tell him/her to spend 10 minutes reading these forums!

You won't be able to do anything for them if their site is genuinely rubbish.

I know your feeling. Have done linkdevelopment work for others. Now I make it a rule and have my own terms and conditions Regarding link exchange development work. Abt not linking to sites with PR less than 4 I can only say ignorance is a bliss! Hope they see the light at the end of tunnel. Nothing much you can do. Best of luck.

One of the most important thing is the management of links on your site. Links page are Passe IMHO.

Always keeping in mind the following points while you build links for yourself else you can end up getting your website delisted for SPAM.

1. NO LINK FARMS.
2. NO FFA WEBSITES.
3. 100% GENIUNE HTML Links.
4. NO Search Engine Cloakers.
5. No Hidden Links.

Also try to get links from people / pages who do not have A LOT OF OUTBOUND links.

Hope this helps you get some nice PR.

Getting back to the links. If I was working on a new site, or a site with a low PR, I would always state in the email that this site will have a much greater PR in the near future, and that I don't use any methods that are considered Spam by Google, or words to that effect.

Rather than guest books just pay yahoo....atleast then you have a good inbound and there is no risk of being caught in the potential guest book mess.

Like Dougs, I'd be reluctant to make guest books a big part of my early campaign. I'm sure a few guestbook links wouldn't hurt, but I'd go after Yahoo and some of the smaller free and/or low cost directories at the beginning. Perhaps you have a friendly site or two that will exchange links. Many webmasters, of course, will still base links on content rather than PR. Whatever you do, once the PR is higher the process will get easier.

One thing that's true: the perception of the world at large is usually well behind reality. Hence, savvy WebmasterWorld members were looking at PR long before most site owners knew what it was. Now, people like Herenvardo's client are imposing PR demands just as the toolbar has become an unreliable indicator of real PR and/or penalty status.

A short term solution to your problem Herenvardo.

Add the site to your profile URL!

Go to other forums and do the same.

Make a habit of posting a couple of posts a day, and starting 1 thread. With say 5 forums that's 15 posts/day, after a month that 450 posts and at least 5 to a couple of hundred good quality (PR) links.

That will give a PR4 (or better) then you can develop according to the clients instructions.

After developing a number of links (so the site can stand on it's own) - turn the profiles back to you. :)

Remember outsourcing work is about innovation and solutions not "I can't"! ;)
