Reciprocal links to specific pages?

For an educational/informational project we expect lots of links from students and schools. Each participating school will have it's own introduction page with one outgoing link to the school's site. We will ask the schools and their students to link back to us.

The school pages are only one aspect of the site but we don't mind them to show up in the serps (on the contrary, those pages may have their own specific keywords).

My question is: does it matter - PR wise - to which page they link?

The schools links are reciprocal links anyway, does it matter where they come in?

Hi HitProf,

The links to those pages will transfer PR to those pages, and not the homepage as is the norm. There is no problem with this as far as I can see if you want to promote these pages. Ideally you want these links to come in on pages that you want to promote.

If those pages are desirable entry pages, than linking to them is fine; it will help the PR of those pages, and have a link text effect, too. I've had occasional problems with sites linking to the page where their link is located, which in my case was not usually desirable. Most corrected the link to the home or other page when asked to.

The school links will be reciprocal. Any ideas on different effects to where they link to?

We have used this to some good affect. The pages are tuned to the correct keywords, we then get external sites to link to these pages with correct anchor text. The pages rise very quickly in the index's.

Thanks all,

We'll just ask and see what happens.
