Hi all,

I'm trying to find a good linking strategy and to do this I have the following question:

- Does getting a link from a lower PR site add anything to your own website? Or is it of no use at all?

Hope you can help me out.

Regards,

Wouter

Tribal, links from low PR sites can help. They still contribute to your PR (in a small way), and their link text is helpful.

More importantly, they may grow in PR in the future.

I'd look at link relationships with sites that make sense - on-topic sites where your mutual visitors will find the other site useful. Even if they are low PR, the links may turn out well.

Also actual people have been known to sometimes click on links. Links even were originally invented for that purpose.

Lower PR links will transfer some PR, but more importantly is the anchor text.

Why not drive those low level PR links deep into your site to the most suitable pages and make the anchor text match the page. This is better for you in google world but also much more suitable for the user and better theming can occur.

Often the greatest traffic comes from lower page rank links.
Also small sites of quality tend to become large sites of quality in time, so I would never suggest abandoning a low page rank site that is of quality as far as link requests.

As everyone mentioned above, I generally see a few reasons to ask low pr sites to link:

1. It does contributes to the PR in a way.
2. Link text helps.
3. referrals from that site.
4. It may increase in PR in future and that could be a multiple-fold benefit.

And there are a few more minor factors.

By adding links you have a reason to expand your content by describing the site. Thus you increase the chance of acquiring related traffic , assuming the link is on theme.
