'traditionally' you would link back to the index/main page of the site you are linking to, unless you are 'deep linking' to a page for a specific reason, like the page is related to your page in some way.
for the purposes of PR does it matter where in his domain I link to?
in terms of the amount of pr you pass on from your site it makes no difference.
in terms of the pr you might get back then as M_E said - theoretically if you link to the page the link back to you is on then a small part of the 'pr' you pass them would then be passed back to you.
but remember that when linking - the link text used is more important than the pr passed imo, so make sure you get good link text in the link back to you.
