Hello

When you want to make a reciprocal link, do you want to link back to the main domain of the page that links to you or do you want to link to the specific page the link originated from?

Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, bgreen!

Reciprocal linking is about reciprocity. You decide where the link to your site points to, your partner decides where the link to his or her site points to.

Thanks for the quick reply

I guess what I was really asking is , for the purposes of PR does it matter where in his domain I link to? ie the exact page the link originates from or the main domain

In theory you would get a slightly better result linking to the page from which the link originates.

In practice, after all the damping factors, I would be surprised if there was a perceptible difference.

hi there bgreen

'traditionally' you would link back to the index/main page of the site you are linking to, unless you are 'deep linking' to a page for a specific reason, like the page is related to your page in some way.

for the purposes of PR does it matter where in his domain I link to?

in terms of the amount of pr you pass on from your site it makes no difference.

in terms of the pr you might get back then as M_E said - theoretically if you link to the page the link back to you is on then a small part of the 'pr' you pass them would then be passed back to you.

but remember that when linking - the link text used is more important than the pr passed imo, so make sure you get good link text in the link back to you.
