Looking for opinions.

I am making a website with all the search engine tricks to get high rankings. I then will approach lower ranking sites asking if they would like to place a link on my site for say $5.00 a month. If they could benefit from it I think it is a small price to pay.

What do you think?
Thanks!

P.S. I have a good .com name describing what they would be selling.

You could do what you suggest and there are 2 questions which you will need to have answered:

1. Will the SE's catch you and penalize your site? There are other who have tried you you say and been penalized. When that occurs you no longer have a product to sell.

2. Will anyone pay? The problem here is that most of the people who realize they need links are visiting this forum or other forums like it - sort of like myself. I would never pay for any link unless it was an advertising link on a page from which I would receive good targeted traffic.

cheers,
Hagen

Do it if you think it is really worth it.

imho there are 2 types of webmaster, those who know about google pagerank and those who don't. those who do will use their knowledge to get to where they want to be. those who don't won't see the benefit of buying a link.

if you had tons of targetted traffic to sell things might be different

just my opinion
