I promise it’s coming today but please, don’t let that stop anyone. I’m sure I’m not the only one with ideas about one-way linking.
Reminder for anyone starting in to read this discussion to read first Reasons Not To Link [webmasterworld.com] because I think some of what people are talking about in that discussion is fodder for discussion here.
Another method for one-way linking is developing topical articles. If you write, create articles on your subject, post them on your website then submit them to other websites for free use. Great publicity and you become an authority on your subject.
This is another great thread - picking up so many ideas I'll soon be dangerous. I especially like the honeybee analagy & WebRookies idea - as it would work well in my field.
My particular industry is service/information oriented - and highly competitive - full of rascals.
A person could write a relatively short one page info/impact article on a hypothetical jonsmith, & post it to his website:
www.xxx.com/2003/jonsmith
Then you could have a return link from that article to your home page.
You could permit people to copy the article and republish it's content as long as they give credit to the identifying source. If you did this consistently, say once a week, I think the honeybees would find the nectar.
The impact
1) creates quality content
2) induces inbound links to deep pages within your site
3) creates interwoven links within your site
Do I have it right? As long as I'm willing to do the work (write) I have a recipe for success.
Thanks everyone for the excellent ideas....

Yes, that's it ArcticMan. Homepage link on every page with other navigation. Even articles once a month have an impact. Natural multiple indexing of multiple articles adds up, and its all good content too.
I have complied what everyone was saying abt one-way linking at this discussion forum:
There is no priority order here.I just wanted to post all the names and ideas in one post so that it helps in crystalizing the strategy.
Hi People the ideas I picked up are from these people posts....Thanks everyone.

1.Look for Hubs..try to have back link from the hub.
2.Create an Article( pdf or html form) publish it and submit it in other sites.Have your site description in it.
3.Give out press release of your site content or new article.
4.Giving away software , service or advice as a bait. For the Bees to pick up the nectar and spread the pollen.
5.Flower is the website, bess are sites that link to you and nectar is what you offer.Think like a flower.
6.Directories:Use "key phrase add link","Web directory"," Key phrase Directory" in search engines have listed in these.
7.Create Article and allow people to copy it's content as long as they give credit to orginal resource.
8.Look for common themes , are they homepages, tips, message board enteries.
9.Pay sometimes to be listed in niche directories..perhaps 25$
10.Using reverse engineering go back to point of impact and then build and create from that point.
11.Start with reciprocal linking become some authority and prepare unique content...Be Original and Unique in the content.
12.B2B: you can request a link back in exchange for busienss information services.
13.Be listed in local search engines. Some Search engines seem to do well in Contry specific search engines..get listed in them too.
14.Find out what's missing in the industry, try to give that.
15.If a somebody is offering tool, review the tool and post it on your site.
Please do update if I missed some important points here.

Yeah, take the tool see if it can be used in your line of work and work on it to make it better than the original. Or use the concept to combine with another concept in order to have a fresh tool that relates to your business:)
Quite cool I thought:)
If you've got a number of sites all linking together for the purposes of raising communal PR you may be edging into a dodgy area, more so, perhaps than if it was just two sites exchanging links between themselves.
It might show an unnatural pattern of links - that's why I suggested using a visual mapping tool like kartoo or touchgraph (although one would expect search engines to have far more sophisticated tools than this).
Try [webmasterworld.com...] for a good discussion of the above...
My thanks to you for sharing this nugget.
While the frenzy was taking place over in forum #3, it gave me an opportunity to create a resource that other authoritive sites have agreed to include in their next update. :)
