I went to google to do a link search and when I put in www.wiget.com, I got back result for some other site. If I put my mouse over the "Find web pages that link to" part of the results, it has a different site in the(yellow little pop-up window thing). Its like the two sites have been linked together by google and counted as one(with the biggest one showing up for search terms and the other not) and clues?

What is happening here is that one site has two different domain names. This could happen, for example, when company A buys out company B. Now, both companya.com and companyb.com are pointing to the same site.

Google figures out that now, both domains point to the same site. Probably, there are backlinks that point to each of the old sites.

Google will pick one domain name, and show it in the SERPs for a given page. However, when you type the 'unfavored' domain name in the search box, it is smart enough to know that you really mean the favored domain, and shows the results for it.

why doesn't act like with normal duplicate content sites?
