How Long To Collect Links?

How much time costs are involved?

How many hours do you have to put in to research, find and setup decent links for a client site?

I suspect that if web developers/seo use their standard charge out rates to do this, and lets face it, the site is doomed to oblivion if you don't, then it adds a very considerble cost onto the page & content development work.

I'd be interested in seeing some guesstimates of the $$ you believe this adds to site delivery costs. I now separately itemize this cost on all quotes so that clients better understand where their money is going and what a free entry into Google actually costs if it is to have any chance of success.

Care to share?

A resource type site is much easier to get links to than a sales or service site. Even the owner of the site (a non webmaster) as long as they understand the concept of sending a email can go out and try to find places that will link to it. I find its a timely manner often first email attempts will go unanswered. Start by complimenting their site and work into contributing your link to their site. If its a sales/service site it takes a lot more time to get it linked up.

Absolutely.... and also more prone to having the inexperienced owner blunder into bad neighbourhoods and worthless links.

No-one else prepared to comment on how long?

Hours and hours. It is a butt-numbing enterprise for very little results.

If this doesn't make you want to have a beer after work then you're a saint.
