Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on my site for a while now, and I’m running into some ranking issues that I can’t fully figure out. I’ve done the basics like optimizing on-page SEO, compressing images for speed, and setting up a decent internal linking structure.

The challenge is that my niche is very competitive, and I’m not sure if I should focus more on:

Building high-quality backlinks

Publishing longer-form content

Improving Core Web Vitals performance

Or maybe something else I’m overlooking

Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation where your site just wouldn’t move past page 2 or 3, no matter how much you optimized?

I’d really appreciate any insights or strategies that worked for you. <snip>

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hi Ryan_Ali and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] Unfortunately we don't offer reviews in the public forums. We do have a Review my site forum for paid Supporters [webmasterworld.com] if you feel you need a review.

Since you have posted in the Link Building forum it could be that you are relying too heavily on backlinks to help with ranking and currently Google does not see a lot of value in general backlinks. Targeted, strongly relative links can offer some help, but the content you produce is more important than hundreds (or dozens) of links you might have. If your content is based on your own experience it is more likely to be unique and have value to others. IF AI is used to produce content, then adding more of it does not improve your chances.

@Ryan_Ali ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

Links are generally demoted these days (see other discussion here at WW). SEO tricks are usually not effective as g (and others) have learned the game. Clean code and good user experience do count, but to a lesser degree than even as recent as five years ago. Mobile/Desktop, gotta be functional on both, though mobile is slowly winning the view of choice contest.

What DOES rank is compelling unique content (human-crafted, not AI) and PATIENCE. Things do NOT move quickly on the web in these mature times. Competitive niches are problematic. Sometimes the best move is not to play in that kind of meat grinder. If one accepts the odds of getting heard among the noise, then go ahead, just do so with reasonable expectations.

The Magic Bullet was lost in 1999, likely into a stellar black hole.

I completely agree — gone are the days of quick SEO hacks. What I’ve noticed is that long-term consistency in publishing content still works, especially if the content is genuinely useful for a specific audience.

For example, I experiment with niche mobile gaming content. Instead of chasing backlinks aggressively, I’ve focused on writing guides and resources that help players. It doesn’t skyrocket overnight, but slowly builds a steady stream of traffic.

@Ryan_Ali ... your link will likely be removed due to TOS, but it sounds like you are on right path and expectations regarding today's web "seo".

As with all who play the game: Good Luck! Hang In There! Never Give Up. Never Surrender!

In short: keep up the good work.

Always remember: If you build it, they* will come. :)
