If you have a site with say, 2 to 4 hundred pages, can you link the front page to all those pages without any google ban? just on a outside shot, can you link "all" the pages to each other? Thanks all

I have always believed that you can do what you like (link as you like) internally on your site. I try to carefully redistirbute PR to those pages where I want it, linking heavily to them, and link much less to pages that I consider less important.

teeceo, I don't think there will be a problem in theory - google wouldnt see it as spam I think. More likely googlebot will just get bored and go elsewhere for his/her kicks.

However its not a great idea as Mohamed-E says. Your linking should give googlebot and googleindex-chap clues to what your most important pages are. So link to your section indexes or most important pages only from your index page. There is ansolutely no way you will get good PR and rankings for all pages, so the idea is to get good PR for your really good section indexes or "selling" pages.

There are lots of reasons for this, but it all comes down to..

- You are better off getting higher PR and popularity for say 2 to 5% of pages than low to moderate PR for all.

p.s. this is handsdown the best form on the net(and I hate to say that, living in san francisco and the base of the site being in the u.k. but hey, thats life.

teeco, Google isn't going to ban you capriciously. Look at their Guidelines and you'll find the issues of concern for them. www.google.com/webmasters/index.html is something to memorize!

Sure there are some legitimate concerns about what Google is doing, but there is too much hysteria, I think. Of course, with the traffic of Google, it is something that makes one nervous.

I definitely agree with all of the above, the real issue is providing Google with the pages you think are most relevant to searchers, the ones you want to make sure Google and the other search engines find and index.

From what I gather Google is happiest if you set your navigation in a way that would best help your surfers, regardless of what form that linking may take. Linking to every page is pretty much a site map, which can be quite useful, so there would be no reason for Google to target it per se.
