I discovered an article on a .edu website from a respectable university that mentions my website! This is great news but I'm not getting the link juice from this that I want? Would it be wise for me to write a blog article and reference this page so that it forces Googlebot to crawl the university, see my link and return to me? Would that help?

No. If it's "link juice" you are worried about just leave it alone. There is no way to know how much "link juice" you are receiving from that link.

Somewhat related, I would like to add that I don't believe there is a such thing as "link juice" in the way that we used to think about it. I believe there's more nuance to how links affect website ranking and crawling nowadays.

There are many different roles played by inbound links within a variety of algorithms.

Where does the page link to on your site? Is the page that sends the link have specific information that your site covers? if is to an inner page that has low rankings and there are others that are higher maybe redirect the page to one of those

That might alter the context of the link.

The only time there is a need to link back to a page that is linking to you is if it serves as a way to generate trust, like an award. Otherwise don't mess with it. It's just one link out of thousands. It truly is a waste of effort to micro-manage a single link. Move on to obtaining the next link.

Agreed. Your time is precious.
Google will eventually find the link. You can try and accelerate the process - but you can do so many more better things with your time.

Link on the basis of what adds value for your visitors. It is the actions of real people that result in sales or clicks on ads, build your site for them not for Google.
