Ads catered to me on different websites

How do these ads know what pertains to me?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering when I search around or I am on certain websites the ads that are served to me kind of pertain to what interests me or something similar maybe I have researched in the past and displays banners on sites I visit relating to me in a way?

How is this possible? Is there a company that does this for business owners or how does it all work? I am a little interested here.

I'm going to guess you're talking about ad re-targeting which shows you ads related to sites you've been on recently.

It works marvellously.

Alternatively there are companies that offer targeted display ads which are based on demographic information about your target customers. Can't remember what it's called and I've no idea if it works.

Yes, like how I keep getting an ad for an airline that I already purchased a ticket from showing up to me when I go to sites related to sandwiches, marsupials, etymology, manure, etc...

To be, it is just kind of creepy having an ad follow me around everywhere I go...
