I have a website with a Google PR6. A while back, I exchanged links with a website that I thought had potential-it seemed like the webmaster was building a good site. In general it is a well put together site and seems informative. Right now that website also has a PR6 and is somewhat related to my theme.
I am considering removing the link and I am curious if that would be advisable.
In the past, I have tried to contact the webmaster, even sent material for his site but he never returned any emails. From my traffic logs, I have never received a hit from that site. Just today, I noticed a note on his site, asking if anyone would be interested in buying his domain name (and his PR6 ranking, traffic, etc)
My gut says drop him and send a note to him telling him, but I am wondering if I should keep it for the sake of the search engine ranking and Google PR. Anybody have any thoughts?
nym_fan, if he's neglecting it chances are he's not removing links and possibly not paying attention to who's linking to him, either.
As mack points out, taking your link off protects you in case the other site ends up hitting the skids. The link to you helps your PR, and if it falls it won't hurt you.
Your PR isn't improved by linking out to the other site, it's affected by links to you. So taking it off won't hurt in that respect.
