I found a site that deals with archeology.

It's almost an .edu or .gov site.

Site looks like hell, no script or nothing, just the guy running it asking for $10 a year.

The whole site PR is 5, the page where he would put my link is PR4.

Is this worth it?

If I just pay him via Paypal with no script, will Google ever know I paid him?

Is this safe?

You know it's not safe or you wouldn't be unsure about it.

Does a link to your site make sense on his site?

Is he selling links to other people who's links might not be a good fit with yours?

You'd already have taken a leap of faith if you felt secure in it.

The thing is it doesn't matter either way, if his site was an authority site you'd want to link to him and not vice versa. Is your site an authority on the subject of his page? If not walk away, otherwise I'd say go with you first instinct... you're being tested.
