Hello...

I have many sites that I built in 2003 & 2004 that are still up... old, but up. I've not done done anything with these sites in years, but want to get back into it now. Most of these sites exist within pods of verticals (sports, dating, martial arts, etc..) and I used to link pods to other pods, or sites within pods to get everything spidered and ranked. Many of these sites have pages indexed still and some have very low PR.

I'm looking at re-linking and starting back on the road to traffic driving.

What are the new rules... can someone give me a "lay of the land"?

I don't have any experience specifically in what you're asking. But when was the last time you looked at the backlinks of a site that was ranking and uncovered a network of unrelated sites that were owned by one person? I know I've seen it in the past, but I don't recall having seen it recently.

the new rules are, if you don't get caught you'll get a boost, but if you get caught your sites will get nuked.

And it's tough not to get caught I bet. I've got a lot of solid PR sites I could interlink and build quite a network. And they're mostly discrete. Only two things that would be identifiable I think; nameservers (I could probably fix that) and many of the IP's, while on different C classes, are owned by the same company. I'm guessing that wouldn't pass a hand check :).

Hmm... thanks for the feedback.

Is linking to other of my sites that are of value to the end user still a possibility?

'interlinking that makes sense for the user' is allowed - but you really have to be dispassionate in deciding that it is useful to them
(I still think they should love *all* my sites! ;))
