Just got a link request where the writer says he found my site and would like to do a link request, yada yada yada.

He talks about how great his site is and exactly how I should link to it.

Nowhere in the message does he state WHICH of my sites he wants for the link exchange.

yeah, I'm really going to respond to that one.

yep...I get those all the time and I have well north of 100 different sites. It always surprises me that people don't think about including something so basic as the site they want the link from.

Are you sure he didn't send it to.........

username@domain_name_he_wants_to_link.com

........ And it redirected to your catch_all inbox and you didn't notice which tld he sent to?

I only ask because I had a similar thing happen and when I replied with a sassy... "Which domain is this for?", they replied equally as sassy. "The one I sent the email to...."

I then looked at the email headers and saw that he sent it to webmaster@example.com which redirects to my master inbox.

Nope- it was sent to the e-mail used for the domain registration (for ALL my domains), which is a Hotmail address. Now, if he's asking for a link from Hotmail... :)

Actually, the theme of the guy's site is related to 1 very small section of one site that is otherwise completely unrelated to his subject. So if I wanted to, I could have figured out which site he meant. I just didn't want to. :)

BTW, I don't use catchalls. About all they catch is SPAM, and I get enough direct SPAM already. If someone can't take the small amount of effort to figure out the proper way to contact us, I'm not going to spend 100 times that effort in weeding through additional SPAM just to find that 1 non-SPAM message. Especially since that 1 message is most likely to be a request asking me to waste even more of my time (asking for information that is right in front of them on the site, asking them to do their homework project, etc.).
