I recently read about 3 way reciprocal linking techniques that some sites use to improve their ranking. My question for the forum is - is it safe and acceptable to participate in 3 way linking programs?

Especially: "Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank."

They don't say "2-way", "3-way", or "5-way". They say don't, and they certainly have the sophistication to tell when a site is link-scheming.
