Do college websites send traffic or just link juice?

Say a university website has a German language department. And they have a links section (with a dozen or so links, not 100's).

Would you guys expect a link from such a page to send actual traffic (or just boost rankings)?

Of course, it depends on the size of the university, etc., but I was wondering if students actually ever looked on such pages or if professors/teachers put links there, and nobody ever clicks on them...lol...

Maybe anyone has some experience with that?

It probably varies with your niche. But if I had to guess, I'd say don't expect much if anything in the way of referral traffic.

thanks. How do you feel about them sending link juice, though? Is that one of those opportunities where traffic development and boosting rankings does not overlap, at all? I would expect them to send a decent amount of link juice, as the domains are so authoritative (if there are only around a dozen of links on their links page, not 100s).

I forgot to ask a question: Would you expect them to send a good amount of link juice (if there are only say 10 other links on the page)? To be honest, Im afraid I dont know enough about internal linking, yet to understand this.
