Correct linking within a site for better search results

Are there ways to improve SE results solely based on intralinking?

The question is, are there techniques that can boost/improve results in search engines that are based on anchortexts and links within the site?

For example, some sites put a link at the bottom next to copyright yada-yada and link to homepage using the industry keyword. Does that help for ranking for that keyword?

Are there any other general methods to improve ranking with links within the domain?
