Should I consolidate inbound links?

I have a client who has used multiple domains in the past, so they currently have a messy inbound link situation. All of their domains currently point to the same web site files stored on one shared server. So if you went to Domain1.com, Domain2.com or Domain3.com, you'd see the same pages.

Each domain currently has several inbound links, and in some cases, the same external web site might link to all three domains.

1. Is it best to contact the webmasters of those B2B web sites and ask them to update their links to my client's primary domain?

2. If so, what's the best way to ask a webmaster to update their links to my client's site?

Well there is always the risk of confusing people or of appearing like some sort of spammer if multiple links all end up at the same place. The site concerned might end up removing all the links.

Most sites have a contact somewhere for the webmaster or administrator you will have to go to each site in turn and write a note explaining the situation.

If you have 3 domains all the same, I would pick the one which the higest PR and 301 the other 2 to it. That should pass on the link juice. Have a look for any good links pointing to sites 2 & 3 and try and get them updated, but don't loose sleep over it - just go find more link..
