I am currently undertaking a link building campaign. In my industry many of the relevant websites have a tendency to have controversial / minority opinions.

For example, I found a blog that looked like a good target for a link enquiry but he also had a prominently displayed 'Boycott <country>' banner.
This is a prime example of the kind of thing that may turn some customers off (especially when considering that one of our core demographics may feel strongly about this particular issue) - but then again, the people who arrive at this blog are unlikely to be angered by the sign, since they know the content of the site already.

So without extremes has anyone had any issues with losing business due to links being placed on controversial sites?

Thanks
Ed

I think many people would rather not be associated with controversial sites. Having your banner on a site implies approval of said content. Why bother creating an advertising relationship with a lunatic? It's generally not good for most brands, walk away. There are literally millions of other sites.
