I woke up this morning, of course the first thing I do is check my e-mail. Within there I find one titled with my domain name. So I open it, the way it was worded was simple.

Hi,

I reviewed DOMAIN.xxx and would like a link from it to my client's web site.
In exchange, I'll post a link from their site to yours.

Exchanging links will help bring in more business for both your web site and my
client's. ..........

You get it, I replied saying my PR is higher than yours neenerneenerneener or something to that effect. j/k

I want to know if others are receiving this kind of e-mail or if it is a special thing. However when I goto their website its very empty - a few pages and it says what to do if you reveived a email from them.

I replied back saying No thank you in the end just because it seems so shady to me.

I have received a few in that sort of style recently, most are spammers just trying to get links.

Worse are the ones that say,

I have added you site to my list of links and would appreciate a return link. (Some of these have added a javascript link and have the page on robots disallowed)

Now thats not very friendly in my books.

There's been a slew of them lately. People are asking about them on email lists, which is surprising. Most of them are saying they send "targeted traffic." Interesting, the last one someone asked about had dynamic asp pages, weren't even in search engines and the homepage had no text, just the garden variety directory type links.

They were the type of listings you do with automated classified scripts, and they were charging "only" $19 a year.
