I used to pass long time exchanging links.
I don't do link swap anymore and still doing good.
In my opinion reciprocal link exchange is a complete waste of time.

Putting efforts in developing content is much better and even fun.

I think it all depends on your situation.

For a new site with not much content, link exchanges are probably the only way to go, to get some intial visitors and onto the search engine rankings. Once you get the ball rolling, you can slowly filter out link exchanges and only concentrate on getting 1 way links.

In my opinion, link exchanges aren't a waste of time. They still have their place, just as with the times, that place will change shape and form. Link exchanges are just as valid as one way links in terms of getting visitors and forming real human links as well. Socialising on the net is just as important as getting a link.

You can get 1 way at starting on directories and earn such a big waste of time. And focus on content to get some others in long run... Just my opinion.
