I am new here and was wondering how do you go about finding links to your website? Mind you, I just learned tonight what that means. Are these things you buy, are they other websites in similar areas in which you ask the owner of the website to trade links?
How does this all work?
Thank you for any information you may be able to provide!
Warmly,
Tiffani
I recommend taking a look through the link development library. If you scroll up you can see the link to it, or follow this one: [webmasterworld.com...]
You can also take a quick read through the Brin/Page paper about how Google looks at links. It's been awhile and things have changed but not as much as you'd think. It's still worthwhile to read it to understand where they are coming from. Skip over the computations and stick to what's in plain English. Link is here: [infolab.stanford.edu...]
Short version, it's good to amass inbound links. Whatever you can do to encourage other webmasters to link to you do it. Just also keep in mind that search engines do not like to be manipulated. So things that are in your direct control like exchanging links and buying links can come into scrutiny IF you are too successful or if a competitor files a spam report, among other things. It's usually a small risk, like, you could get run over by bus if you jaywalk all the time. Some algorithmic considerations too, like what is a link really worth?
Many factors come into play. Too much to post in one thread.
Good luck.
