Number of Links: Google vs. Yahoo

I'm curious why Google doesn't recognize all my links.

When I go to Google and type: link:www.example.com it returns 4 links to our site. (Two of them are internal links)

When I go to Yahoo and type: link:www.example.com it returns 53 links to our site. (Several of these are internal links)

Also, I have a list of sites I've identified who link to us, and I have 29 such inbound links, few of which either Google or Yahoo recognize.

If these sites that link to ours were not indexed by Google or Yahoo or didn't have a page rank I might understand, but I have links from Yellow Pages and my own web site, both of which are ranked well, yet these links don't get listed with this tool.

Any ideas? Thanks, Elisa

The Yahoo total is more representative, as Google does not display most of the links which a site has aquired.

Google only shows a sample of links. For more information about how Google works, please post the question on the Google Search forum.

Thanks.
