Hi my name is Sergiu and i'm new to this forum. Although this is my first post i will jump right into it. I am learning about Search Engine Optimization for about 9 months now and i have "specialized" more on link building. I'm working for a big company in this field but i feel like i could earn a lot more on my own.

Recently i have came across a potential client and unlike the rest of the people i have worked with which were expecting packages (x-pr links y-social bookmarking links etc.) he wants to pay me per 1000 of visitors. His site currently has a pr 4 (5 before the Google "refresh" a week ago) and is pulling a decent 1000 unique visitors a month on a keylogger related niche.

The question i have is how much should i charge him for my services? i know how to do my job and i'm sure that we will both have something to win but i have never been payed like this. Any great tips so that i might not get ripped off or scare him away?

Getting paid like that is generally a minefield. pay by 1000 visitors says nothing about the quality of the traffic, just the volume. What if they don't like the quality of the visitors? There's likely other issues surrounding this as well.

Sounds like they want to 'pay by performance' which is fine except it also sounds like they're not sophisticated enough to realize that they're measurement of that performance has problems. Which means you are dealing with someone either looking for a deal or doesn't know what they're doing, and in either case you are likely to run into problems.

If it's your first client, I'd be very tempted to suggest a pay for work model. So much per hour. Then you're not working for free, and there's little wiggle room. You do the work, you get paid. ALternatively, define some very measurable work related goals and then charge a flat monthly fee. i.e. 50 links per month or something like that.
